Fisher House Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for Fisher House Foundation

Our commitment to privacy
Fisher House Foundation knows that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our donors, website visitors, and the military and veteran families we serve. This policy describes the information that is collected and how it is used and protected.

What information is collected by Fisher House Foundation?
We collect personal information that you voluntarily submit to us. For example, donors may submit personal information, such as name, address, email address, and telephone numbers. We use a third-party payment processor to process payments and donations. In connection with the processing of such payments and donations, FHF will only store the last four digits of a credit card.

In addition to the personal information that you submit to us, we may collect non-personal information such as internet protocol addresses (“IP addresses”) and browsing behavior with cookies – if the user’s web browser permits.

We also collect information from applicants for our Scholarship, Hero Miles, and Hotels for Heroes programs. All information collected to manage these programs is kept private and secure.

Applicants to our scholarship programs submit personal information as well as other identifying information such as high school attended or date of birth. Eligibility documentation, to include a DD214, benefit number from U.S. Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card, and sponsor name, is collected to ensure eligibility for a scholarship. Information is shared with third party vendors for program delivery and to communicate about application status. After winners are determined and contacted, only selected scholarship recipient information is securely stored for ongoing program administration.

Applicants for our Hero Miles or Hotels for Heroes program, usually through a caseworker or Fisher House manager, will be asked for relationship status with an eligible service member or veteran. We collect information about the service member including branch of service, status, medical center assigned to, and injury/illness status, as well as contact information, such as name, address, and phone number, and identifying information like date of birth and gender.

Contact and limited private information is shared with third parties, such as airlines and hotels, for program delivery, and to conduct internal recordkeeping, reporting, and data analysis.

How do we use information?
We collect information primarily to accept donations, complete our charitable projects, and provide you with information concerning our programs, projects, and activities. We will use your contact information to provide each donor with an acknowledgment letter and potentially a complimentary copy of The Patriot, Fisher House’s biannual print magazine. We also use information for internal purposes (to better understand our supporter network) and for analytical purposes (to respond to requests for information and to improve our website, donor base, and outreach).

We treat personal information submitted offline, e.g., via regular mail, the same way we treat personal information submitted online.

From time to time, FHF may participate in behavioral-based advertising. Specifically, a third party may use technology (e.g., cookies) to collect website activity enabling tailored advertising about FHF that may appear on other websites.

Should you no longer wish to receive a copy of our print magazine, to keep your donation anonymous, or to change the way your name will appear, please contact us at 888-294-8560 or donations@fisherhouse.org. All marketing email messages from FHF contain a link to unsubscribe.

We will not knowingly maintain information from anyone under 13 unless it is submitted by a parent or guardian, such as through our programs for military and veteran families. If we learn that information is being stored for someone under the age of 13, it will be deleted immediately.

What happens when I share my Fisher House story with the Foundation?
When you submit a testimonial, quote, video, or other submission through the fisherhouse.org website (and any sub-domain associated with that URL), or any third-party website operated by FHF, the user agrees it may be made public and is granting FHF the right to edit, copy, and reproduce such content in any lawful manner including but not limited to appeals, stewardship messages, and promotional materials.

With whom do we share information?
We do not trade, share, or sell information with external organizations, except as authorized by you, or as described in the terms of service with FHF vendors.

Donors with annual gifts of $25,000 or more may be publicly recognized in our annual report but can opt out of this recognition by choosing to remain anonymous. Members of the Legacy Society may be recognized in print and online.

Sponsorship of Foundation events may also be publicly recognized, as agreed upon in advance.

The Foundation may share information with third parties if we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request; to enforce applicable user agreements or policies; to protect the security or integrity of our Site or Services; and to protect us, our users or the public from harm or illegal activities.

Our commitment to data security
To help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we maintain physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure collected information. Browser connections to our servers are protected through an SSL certificate, which enables HTTPS secure connections. Administrator access to our servers is secured by RSA public key authentication.

Your access to data, and your choices
If you registered to receive communications from us and later change your mind, you may ask that your name and contact information be removed from our distribution list. All marketing email messages from FHF contain a link to unsubscribe.
